Bio-gas and its Uses

Biogas is a renewable source of energy which is produced through the process of Anaerobic digestion by the mixture of waste material and animal waste.

It is a composition of gases which are mainly methane and carbon dioxide but can contain small amounts of other gases including hydrogen sulphide, siloxanes and some moisture.

The percentage of each gas contained in the biofuel varies since the composition depends on the type of waste used in the process.

USES
In instances where the situation calls for natural gas, it can be used directly such as combustion. These include :
  • absorption heating and cooling
  • cooking
  • space and water heating
  • drying
  • gas turbines
Other uses include:
  • fueling internal combustion engines
  • fuel cells for production of mechanical work/ electricity
